马祖日面佛月面佛

有一天，马祖大师不舒服，寺院的当家师问他“您这几天可好啊?”
大师答:“日面佛，月面佛。”

注：“日面佛”、“月面佛”是《三千佛名经》中出现的佛名。日面佛的寿命为一千八百岁，月面佛的寿命为一昼夜。马祖回答：“日面佛，月面佛”意指长寿也好，短寿也好，只要懂得生命之道，生安然，死也安然。

One day, Great Master Mazu was feeling unwell. The monastery’s prior asked him, “Master, how have you been these past few days?”
Mazu replied, “Sun-Faced Buddha, Moon-Faced Buddha.”

Note: Sun-Faced Buddha and Moon-Faced Buddha are names of Buddhas mentioned in the Sutra of Three Thousand Buddhas. The Sun-Faced Buddha has a lifespan of 1,800 years, while the Moon-Faced Buddha lives for only a single day and night.Mazu’s response, “Sun-Faced Buddha, Moon-Faced Buddha,” implies that whether life is long or short, as long as one understands the Way of Life, one can be at peace in both life and death.
