子曰：“素隐行怪，后世有述焉：吾弗为之矣。
君子遵道而行，半途而废：吾弗能已矣。
君子依乎中庸，遁世不见知而不悔。唯圣者能之。”

白话文：
孔子说：“刻意追求隐僻怪异的道理或行为，后世或许会有人记载称道，但我绝不会这样做。
君子遵循正道而行，若有人半途放弃，我绝不会随之停步。
君子坚守中庸之道，即便隐遁世间不被理解也绝不后悔——只有圣人能做到这一点。”

Confucius said: "To pursue obscure theories and engage in eccentric actions may earn posterity a record of praise, but I will never do such things.
A noble person follows the Dao (the right path), yet if others abandon it halfway, I will not stop with them.
A noble person adheres to the Doctrine of the Mean, living in seclusion unknown to the world without regret. Only a sage can achieve this."
