赵州至道无难

赵州从谂禅师教示僧众说道:“要证悟至道不难，只是怕人心有所选择、挑拣。只要开口说话，就有了拣择，就有了分别。老僧我不住在有分别的境地，你们有所护念爱惜吗?”

这时，有一僧人问道:“既已不住在有分别的境地，还护念爱惜什么呢?”赵州答:“我也不知道。”那僧人又问:“您既然不知道，为什么却说不在有分别的境地呢?”赵州说:“问事既然已有所得，行完礼，你就退回去吧。”

Master Zhaozhou Congshen instructed his monks, saying:
"Attaining the Supreme Way is not difficult; the only obstacle is the mind’s tendency to choose and discriminate. The moment you open your mouth to speak, there is already selection and differentiation. As for me, I do not abide in a state of discrimination. Do you cherish and protect anything?"

A monk then asked, "If you do not abide in a state of discrimination, what is there to cherish or protect?"Zhaozhou replied, "I do not know."
The monk questioned further, "Since you do not know, why do you say that you do not abide in a state of discrimination?"Zhaozhou responded, "Since you have already obtained an answer from your question, complete your bow and return to your place."

赵州示众云:“至道无难，唯嫌拣择，才有语言，是拣择是明白。老僧不在明白里，是汝还护惜也无?”
时有僧问:“既不在明白里，护惜个什么？”
州云：“我亦不知”僧云:“和尚既不知，为什么却道不在明白里?”州云:“问事即得，礼拜了退。”
